Usage:
It is a kind of determination of pavement, airport runway, marking paint and so on friction coefficient of the instrument.
1. Used to test skid resistance on existing road surfaces,
2. Consisting of a pendulum arm, rotating about a spindle attached to a vertical pillar and mounted on a trianglar base with adjustable feet.

This method provides a measure of the skid resistance properties of a surface either in the field or in the laboratory. This method measures the skid resistance of a small area of a surface (approximately 0.01 m2) and this should be considered when deciding its applicability to a pavement surface which may have variable surface characteristics, e. G. Block paving. This apparatus is used for the skid resistance measurement of asphalt pavement and concrete pavement, in order to evaluate the skid resistance of pavement in moist condition.

The apparatus used for measuring road surface frictional properties. This apparatus come with an adjustable pendulum arm and a spring loaded rubber slider mounted on the end of the arm.The pendulum is raised and allowed to swing freely during operation, allowing the edge of the rubber slider to skid across the surface of specimen.

The pendulum is released from a horizontal position so that it strikes the sample surface with a constant velocity. The distance travelled by the head after striking the sample is determined by the friction of the sample surface.A reading of Skid Resistance is obtained.
