ASTM D445 Kinematic Viscosity Kinematic Viscometer for Liquid Petroleum Products




Reference Standard:

1. ASTM D445, IP 71 and ISO 3104 methods specify a procedure for the determination of the kinematic viscosity of liquid petroleum products, both transparent and opaque, by measuring the time for a volume of liquid to flow under gravity through a calibrated glass capillary viscometer inside a viscosity bath.

2. Viscosity is an important fluid property when analyzing liquid behavior and fluid motion near solid boundaries. The kinematic viscosity is a measure of a fluid's internal resistance to flow under gravitational forces.

3. Kinematic viscosity = Dynamic viscosity / Fluid mass density. The equation is written. ν = η / ρ.
