Soil load ring penetrometer with T shaped handle

 

Used for measuring the bearing strength and compaction degree of soils. The apparatus consists of a "T" shaped handle connected to a load ring 1 kN (100 kgf) cap., with max load, and of an extension rod with five 100 mm graduations. The 30° end cone has an area of 645 mm2 (I sq. in). Supplied complete with calibration chart.

  To assemble the penetrometer screw the handle to the penetration rods equipped with the conical
  point.
  During the test the operator must hold the penetrometer in a vertical position and control the rate of
  penetration by steading his arms against his legs and at the same time applying pressure to the
  penetrometer handle.
  The conical point should penetrate in the soil at the rate of 13 mm/sec.
  Calculate the penetration pressure qc dividing the load, recorded by the proving ring, by the cross
  section (*) of the point and plot it against the depth of penetration.
